EVERETT, Wash. -- A woman was severely burned Thursday evening when an Everett "bikini barista" stand exploded in Everett.

A call came in just before 5 p.m. about an explosion at the Sinners and Saints coffee stand on Everett Mall Way and Fourth Avenue West.

Aaron Wiley was nearby and saw flames swallow the small coffee kiosk.

"They were all the way up past the power lines there," he said. "They were pretty high."

Erik Hicks with the Everett Fire Department said a young barista was inside the stand when it exploded. She was able to escape the flames, but was burned in the process. The victim, identified as Courtney Campbell, was taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. She is in critical condition at the hospital's burn unit.

"She was kind of in bad shape. Pretty burned up. Looked like her hair was kind of burned, gone," Wiley said.

A woman named Barbara was driving in the area when she saw the fire.

"I was driving eastbound on Everett Mall Way and I saw huge flames coming out of a coffee stand in a gas station parking lot," she said. "The coffee stand was in flames, engulfed in flames, and then it made a big boom."

Barbara said the fire spread to a nearby car before firefighters arrived and extinguished the blaze.

Hicks said investigators are looking into the possibility that propane tanks being used to heat the stand exploded. The coffee stand was completely destroyed.
